Why You Should Use These Seven Steps To Choose The Right Design Agency!
So, you’re excited about your new idea – and of course, it deserves the very best start in life.
You know that creating a brand identity and some publicity around your new venture is vital.
Everyone around you is giving you advice. Conflicting advice.
So, just how do you go about finding people to help you turn your dreams into reality? And what should you be looking for in a creative agency?
The first step is to ensure that you don’t allow your excitement to get in the way of good old common sense. Do your homework – and recognise that getting it wrong at this stage could cost you a fortune further down the line.
The second step is to undertake some research. Use the internet and take a look at what other companies are doing. Check out your competitors – but also take some time out simply to surf. This will give you an idea of what’s out there, what’s current, what you like, and what you absolutely hate.
The third step is create a design brief. Include information on your new product or service, your target audience, what you’re expecting to charge, who your competitors are…The more you can include in the brief, the better the outcome will be. (And be warned, a poor brief will cost you more money.)
The fourth step is to decide on your budget…and stick to it! After all, you don’t want to go bust before you get started! But be realistic, good design will generate increased profits for you. Poor design will simply throw good money after bad.
The fifth step is to create a shortlist of design agencies – and interview them! You’ll get a feeling for who understands what you’re trying to achieve – but even more importantly, you’ll want to make sure that you have a rapport with them. If – for whatever reason – you feel that you might not on with an agency’s staff, WALK AWAY. Good relationships are key to business success – and this is a rule that also stands true when it comes to client and agency.
The sixth step is to know that it’s not just about design and marketing. You also need to think about publicity – and how people are going to get to know about you and your new product or service. You’ll also need to allocate some budget for promotion – and find experts in the field who can help you. (Bear in mind too, that if you can find a design agency which is also able to offer PR and online publicity you’ll benefit from both an economy of scale…and the fact that everyone understands each other and is pulling together on your behalf.)
And finally, the seventh step: Recognise that you’re a key member of the team! While it’s tempting to focus your time and attention on what you do best, know that it’s important for the success of the project that you remain interested in the branding and publicity surrounding your project. (Of course, this doesn’t mean meddling and not allowing the experts to get on with their jobs) – but your enthusiasm and passion for the project will rub off on the experts working with you, which absolutely guarantees that they’ll deliver their best stuff!
